Compliance
How we keep placements safe, disclosed, and well governed
In-content advertising only works when viewers, creators and brands all trust it. These are the commitments we hold ourselves to — both in how campaigns run, and in how the company is run. As Zilisha grows, this page and the governance behind it will grow with it.
Advertising disclosure
Paid placements are disclosed in line with platform rules and Kenyan advertising standards.
Brand safety
Brands approve the context before publishing, and creators approve every brand they host.
Data protection
Personal data is handled under Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019. We collect only what a campaign needs.
Creator consent
No content is altered or monetised without the content owner's written consent.
A strategy built for long-term value
Zilisha's strategy is to build in-content advertising for the [Kenyan / East African] creator economy — giving brands a way to reach audiences inside existing content without interrupting the viewing experience, and giving creators a monetisation option beyond direct sponsorship. As founder, I review and stress-test this strategy on an ongoing basis; as the company grows, this will move to a formal quarterly review with advisors and, later, a board.
Listening to creators and brands
At this stage, Samuel Kamau Gachunga (founder) speaks with creators and brand partners directly — through onboarding conversations, pilot campaigns, and ongoing check-ins — to understand what's working and what isn't. This direct-founder-contact model is intentional early on and will be supplemented with structured feedback channels as the creator and brand base grows.
A founding team built to deliver
Zilisha is currently founder-led: Samuel Kamau Gachunga is the sole founder, director and shareholder, covering strategy, product, and commercial relationships day to day. As the company scales, this section will be updated to reflect any co-founders, advisors, or early hires and how responsibilities are split between them.
Skills and experience that keep pace with the business
As a solo founder, I actively seek out advisors and specialist support (legal, data protection, ad-tech) where my own experience needs supplementing, rather than assuming in-house coverage of every discipline. Gaps are addressed as they're identified rather than through a formal annual review at this stage.
Reviewing our own performance
Performance is currently reviewed informally against milestones (pilot campaigns delivered, creators onboarded, revenue signed) rather than through a formal board-level process. A more structured review cadence will be introduced once the company has a board or advisory board in place.
Ethical values and behaviour
Zilisha is committed to ethical advertising practices: honest disclosure to viewers, fair treatment of creators, and no manipulation of content without consent. As the company hires, these commitments will be formalised into a staff handbook covering anti-bribery, data handling, and conduct expectations, in line with Kenyan law.
Decision-making that's fit for our size
All company decisions currently rest with Samuel Kamau Gachunga as sole founder, director and shareholder. There is no board or committee structure yet — this section will be updated as Zilisha brings on co-founders, investors, or independent directors, and formal governance structures are put in place.
Open communication with our stakeholders
Updates on Zilisha's progress are currently shared directly with creators, brand partners, and any prospective investors through one-on-one conversations and email updates. As the company grows, this will expand to include regular investor updates and, eventually, more formal reporting.
